USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People
This charter outlines the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop's policy regarding the protection of children and young people. It is to be used to guide the conduct of everyone interacting with children and young people. Click on this link to obtain a copy of the charter.
Before you can be a Eucharistic Minister or a Lector, you must complete training mandated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as part of the USCCB "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People." The training, called VIRTUS, is a three-hour class that may be taken at various locations throughout the Archdiocese. You must also be recertified every four years; the recertification class is only 90 minutes long.
Sign up for your VIRTUS class by going to the VIRTUS website and selecting "Registration," "List of Training Sessions" and then under "Organization" picking "Los Angeles - Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region." If there is not a class offered at St. Timothy on the current schedule or the date of a parish-based class is not convenient, you may then select from a list of classes in our area. Note that some classes are for recertification only (90 minute classes) and some classes are only open to parishioners of the sponsoring parish.
When you have completed the training, please make sure you register on the VIRTUS website. Retain the certificate of completion and bring it with you when you participate in your training session.
All adult volunteers, by Archdocesan policy, must acknowledge annually receipt of the "Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors." Download a copy of Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors including the Acknowledgement Form.
