Deacon Thomas A. Sabol

Dn. Tom Sabol was ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in June 2003 and is assigned to St. Timothy Church. Dn. Tom is also assigned to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels as a stational deacon and is the deacon at the UCLA University Catholic Center. Since 2005, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees for Notre Dame Academy Elementary School, a co-educational K-8 school, and Notre Dame Academy, an all-girs' high school.
His service ministry is dedicated toward higher education outreach, particularly among those who might not think that they have a chance to get into college. He is the faculty advisor to the UCLA chapter of Engineers without Borders, which recently finished designing and building a school in rural Thailand.
Dn. Tom earned his PhD in earthquake and structural engineering from UCLA and his MBA from Loyola Marymount University. He is a principal at Englekirk & Sabol, Inc., a Los Angeles based firm specializing in structural engineering, earthquake engineering and wind engineering. He was the structural engineer for the Getty Center, the California Science Center, San Jose Civic Center, San Diego Federal Courthouse and several research buildings on the UCLA campus. At UCLA, Dn. Tom is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering where he teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in tall building design and structural steel.
Carrie, his wife, and he have two children. His daughter is in college and his son is a high school student. When not otherwise occupied, Dn. Tom likes gardening, woodworking, reading and rooting for the Bruins. He has major UCLA credentials: graduate degrees from UCLA, bloodlines through his parents as UCLA graduates, and matrimonial affiliation through his wife as a UCLA graduate. He is, literally, a Son of Westwood!
